The Hold Steady AND Drive-By Truckers on the same bill? Playing Portland?
Seriously, this has been my dream for years. And by pulling strings (i.e. connections) I’m sooo gonna meet DBT!!
I recommend everyone who can buy tickets for the Rock and Roll Means Well Tour. For real.
I am officially freaking out about being a senior and my junior qual and my thesis.
About time, I guess.
I’m back from Lollapalooza and I guess it was worth the money. I saw some great acts I’ve seen before, some groups I’m been aching to see, and some I’d never heard of. My choices yielded little disappointed and I walked away with more than a (much) lighter wallet and a sun burn. It was a good time and I think I needed it. After the pictures are up, I’ll dedicate a post to the best of the best. Just in case you didn’t know already what’s awesome in the current musical landscape… but here’s a hint:
- Amsterband (now known as Ha Ha Tonka)
- Eli “Paperboy” Reed
- The Cool Kids, Lupe, Kid Sister (i.e. the entire motherfucking Chi-town rap scene)
- Dierks Bentley
There are more. But those were my favorites. (Oh yeah and Mark Ronson pulling Phantom Planet out of his pocket to play “California” (!!!!) at the end of his set).
