Today my copy of El Juguete rabioso by Roberto Arlt officially turned 40 years old. For real. It’s is 19 years older than me. That’s old. Fuck, I’m only 19 years from 40? Christ, I’m old.
In honor of this being the one week of school in which I actually have work, I of course am in full procrastination mode, having thus:
- Unnecessarily translated texts
- Done all my actual work EXCEPT the one I have to present tomorrow afternoon
- Made chicken noodle soup (actually, it is simmering now!) [Update: Noodles have been added!]
- Listened to a bunch of This American Life and watched way too much O.C.
So, basically, I decided to procrastinate here as well. I intended to post this last night, but then [shockingly] my house’s internet broke and, well, the post was lost, so now, without further delay, take two of yesterday’s addendum!
7 Songs I Dig a Lot Right Now
1) “Kersone” by Miranda Lambert
– I love myself some Miranda Lambert, and I love this song. Basically, that’s it. No fancy interpretation, no witting insight. Just me saying I like it a lot.

2) “This Too Shall Pass” by Danny Schmidt
– Aww, Danny Schmidt! How you remind me of freshman (college) year… the good parts, not quite the bad parts. Close second from this amazing artist: “Happy All the Time” which unfortunately does not apply; however, we all know just how much I love some irony!

3) “Shot to the Heart” by Rick Ross
– For real, nothing like a Heart sample to kick off an awesome slow rap jam. For real, though, almost introspective song from the big man himself:
I shed tears cause I’m told that they’ll heal
You tell the truth I don’t know how to feel
Never felt alone in a room full of friends

4) “Hip-Hop Saved My Life” by Lupe Fiasco; “Hip-Hop Can’t Save Me” by Young Buck
– Tie for this place. Buck’s response to Lupe’s song is even better than the original; however, I’ve got to rep Mr. Fiasco seeing as I’ve been doing that since way before Food & Liquor dropped.

5) “Talla Ho Wak” by T-Pain
– The Fader posted this one today. Have to say I’m really digging the laid-back, almost normal voiced Teddy Pain. (Have I mentioned that I saw him in concert? Because I did. And it was awesome.)

6) “(Something’s Got To) Give Pretty Soon” by the Drive-By Truckers
– Behind the cover of “Like a Rolling Stone” and “The Living Bubba” this IS my all-time favorite DBT song. I listen to it endlessly. “Zip City” is a close second (or 4th, I guess), followed by pretty much all of Southern Rock Opera, but at the moment, and well, at every moment, this is the song I repeat.

7) The song that plays before Ira Glass’ section about TV (the one where he talks gushes about the O.C. in episode 328: What I Learned From Television. (Based on my research, “Goods” by Mates of State…)
Finally, seriously has know one seen something simmering before? Two out of three (admittedly the non-foodie ones) have questioned whether or not I forgot about it sitting on the stove. Dudes, it is soup. It has to simmer. To distribute the flavors. Come on people.
